Q: What are the Local’s office hours?
A:     The Local Union office hours are 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday – Friday.  Messages
received after hours can be left on our voicemail system.

Q: When and where are union meetings held?
A:    Union meetings are held at the Carol Stream Union Hall, 205 Alexandra Way in Carol
Stream, IL. On the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM. We also rotate quarterly
informational meetings between the Crystal Lake Labor Temple and the Kankakee Labor
Temple. Tune in to this web site for exact dates of those satellite meetings.

Q: Who can attend Union Meetings?
A:     Any Member or Apprentice Member (1st year and up) in good standing, may attend Union
Meetings and have a voice and a vote.

Q: Is an apprentice indentured to his employer?
A:    No! An apprentice is indentured to the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. If he/she         has  a problem or a concern with their employer or their training, they must make a request         to appear before the JATC and be heard.

Q: What’s the difference between a Hiring Hall and a Referral Hall?
A:    With a Referral Hall such as ours, any journeyman who is out of work can report to the Hall
for placement and/or solicit their own next job.  It's their choice.  When a member's Union
has Hiring Hall and he or she is layed off, they must report to the Union Hall for their next
work assignment.  They cannot solicit their own jobs.

Q: What do the Journeyman classifications A, B & C refer to?
A:    Pension Funds. In 1982 SMWIA Locals #265, #220 & #50 were merged. At that time it
was decided that the Local #220 Pension Fund would be designated as A, Local #50’s
would be designated as B, and Local #265’s would be C. Any member who joined the
        Union after January 1, 1982 is a C member.

Q: How much are Journeyman’s dues?
A:    $207.00 per quarter or, if you choose, $69.00 per month. However if you do choose to pay
        your dues less than quarterly there is a $3.00 service charge.  i.e. $69.00 + $3.00 = $72.00
or $138.00 + $3.00 = $141.00. After retirement, a member can stay active in the Local and
continue his/her lifelong relationship with their Union by paying the minimum dues of $14.00
       per month.

Q: In the bottom left hand corner of my pink dues receipt there is a box called "DUE
GENERAL OFFICE", what does that mean?
A:    The amount in that box , ($78.00 per quarter or $26.00 per month) is that portion of your
dues that is sent to your International Association as a per capita tax. The remainder of your
dues goes to support your Local Union.

April 4th, 1913. Local #265, Local #220 and Local #50 merged in 1982 to form what is
        today Local #265.
